Sea Venture’s racing division, SV Raceyachts, announce the arrival of the exciting Farr X2, a new race boat from Farr Design, to compete in the ever growing short handed racing scene here in the UK and Europe.

The new Farr X2, the first small new race boat from Farr Yacht Design since the ground breaking Mumm 30 in the 90’s – is coming to Europe in July.

The Farr X2 is the first production race boat designed specifically for short-handed racing. The high performance asymmetric sloop from Farr Yacht Design, was conceived by well known Australian sailor, Bret Perry and is being built in Singapore by XSP. The first European based Farr X2, sold to a UK owner, will arrive in the UK this July and will be competing in a series of regattas through August and September. This boat will also be available for prospective owners to sail.

The X2 has a 9.2 metre hull with a bowsprit giving an overall length of 10.8 metre. 250L of water-ballast, on each side, gives the righting moment of two or three crew. The two-spreader rig with running backstays is designed to fly a 102 sq.m Asymmetric and a 41.4 sq.m Code Zero, as well as a 33.8 sq. m Mainsail. Farr Yacht Design’s VPP suggests relatively strong upwind VMG and exceptional power reaching potential. The Farr X2 has a projected IRC TCC of 1.080 and is suitable for World Sailing Category One Races.

Sea Ventures, a long standing Hamble based boat dealership, has secured the distribution rights for Europe. CEO Nigel Colley, sailing-pro Nick Bonner, and builder Bret Perry have huge experience in building, racing, and delivering high performance raceboats. The partnership’s main goal is to create a one-design class racing circuit in European waters

“I wanted to increase raceboat activity at Sea Ventures and the Farr X2 is an exciting new design that appeals to the younger sailor from planing dinghies as well as older owners trading down from big performance yachts.” Nigel Colley | CEO Sea Ventures UK.

“The Farr X2 is closer in design and performance to a Class40 but without the price tag. Sea trials in Australia have proved that the Farr X2 is very quick, and there is a proven strong desire for a boat like this, aimed at Two-Handed or short-handed crews and because it is a lot of fun to sail.” Nick Bonner | Farr X2 Europe
